This recipe is lit. Spicy, delicious bite size goodness. I had so much fun making this dish. Its great for an appetizer or a quick snack to share if you dare. I am not a great lover of tuna so I am always trying to find different ways to prepare and enjoy it. Tuna is really affordable and quick so that’s two things it has working for it because I am all about budget friendly meals.
What do you need?
Not much but a little goes a long way. 2 cans of Tuna in water. I prefer this because its healthier for you. Go with the flaked tuna because that also cuts down half the work. Bread crumbs, my favourite is Italian herb Panko breadcrumbs, I love the flavour and the texture it gives. However, any breadcrumb will do, work with what you have or your preference. An egg to bring everything together. An assortment of my everyday go to seasonings, salt, all purpose and paprika, I swear by them, my food feels naked without them. Onion and scotch bonnet which if you’ve been following my recipes you know I don’t cook without scotch bonnet. Its my absolute favourite pepper and I am convinced there is no other flavour quite like it.
How to make Tuna Poppers?
Here’s the fun part because its so easy you’ll be making this more often. Get a nice big bowl. Open tuna, drain and place in bowl. Add dry spices, onion, pepper, bread crumbs , mix it all up and then add the egg to bring that bowl of flavour together. Form the mixture into little balls and set aside. The next step is to fry them up and then you’re that much closer to a spicy snack. The pepper jelly sauce is really easy because that’s basically already made. Depending on the brand you may have less work to do. The brand I got, the pepper jelly is really hard ( not very jelly like) so its important to heat that up to get it to the right consistency. I opted for stove top because I wanted it to be fluid enough so that we can dip the tuna poppers with ease.
So why wait, lets get cooking.
