Another meatless recipe to remind us that sometimes the alternative is even better. This spin on a traditional meal is sure to be a hit for not just you but the children too.

It looks like the traditional spaghetti and tastes just as good. Whether you prepare this for the family or adding a twist to your date night, you will not regret it.

It has quite a bit of prep but truly its easy to make. Its fun working with your hands and tasting the fruits of your labour will be worth it. Lets dig in to something special.

Spaghetti & Lentil Balls.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Lentils

  • 1/2 cup -6 cheese Italian Blend

  • 2/3 pack of Spaghetti

  • Prego Italian Sauce – Tomato Basil and Garlic

  • Salt (Pantry Item)

  • 1/2 tsp. Basil (Pantry Item)

  • 1/2 tsp. Oregano (Pantry Item)

  • 1/2 tsp. Sage (Pantry Item)

  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder (Pantry Item)

  • 1/2 tsp. all purpose seasoning (Pantry Item)

  • 7 cloves Garlic (Pantry Item)

  • 1 cup Diced Onions (Pantry Item)

  • Parmesan Cheese for Topping (optional)

  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil (Pantry Item)

  • 1 cup Panko Italian Herbs bread crumbs (Pantry Item)

  • 2 Eggs (Pantry Item)

  • 2 tsp. Brown sugar (Pantry Item)

Directions

  • Cook Lentils according to package instructions then drain and set aside.
  • In a large sauce pot heat 2 tbsp. oil.
  • Add 2/3 of the onions & garlic and sauté until translucent.
  • Add sauce , basil, oregano, sage and onion powder and cook on low heat for 15 minutes.
  • While the sauce perfects. Add lentils to a bowl, add salt, onions, garlic, all purpose seasoning, breadcrumbs, cheese, eggs and mix well.
  • Using a measuring cup to evenly measure the lentil balls and set aside.
  • Check on your sauce. Add brown sugar, salt to taste and more seasoning (if required).
  • Add lentil balls and cook for 10 minutes.
  • Boil the spaghetti according to package instructions (until al dente) while the lentil cooks.
  • Drain Pasta, serve and top with lentils and sauces and sprinkle parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • While the lentil balls cook in the sauce gently shift and turn them so that they do not stick.
